Fun with metal

September 17, 2014

I've been improving and expanding my metalworking skills.  I don't honestly think I can explain how much I love doing this kind of work - it is pure happiness.  After playing around with copper, I took the plunge and bought a sheet of sterling silver (and some new tools!)

This was a very scary adventure. I stared at that sheet long and hard before getting up the nerve to saw into it - the sheet was expensive and I had crystal clear visions of mucking things up.  But, I finally grabbed my jewelers saw and got down to business.

The first pieces were a little wonky...

but I started feeling more comfortable with the saw and the silver.  Good things started to happen - like the sterling silver squares used in the Kite earrings...

I then decided I needed new needle files and headed to my local Home Depot.  I wandered over to the Dremel aisle and totally lost my willpower...

I used my new handy dandy tools to turn vintage silverware into pendants...

turned that wonky little heart into a charm for my niece...

and finished my K charm and made another heart (just because).

So much more I want to do - too bad I have to sleep.  Ha!  Obviously, now that I have pendants and charms to work with its time to make necklaces.  Guess its time to head back into the studio - yay!
